PREPARING FOR YOUR NEWBORN SESSION
Thank you for choosing Carolina Creative Studios for your newborn portrait session. The success of the newborn photo shoot is due not only to the creativity of the photographer, the collaboration and preparation of parents play an important part in the process.
Here are some guidelines to help your session go as smoothly as possible.

-
Please inform us as soon as possible if you are unable to make it to the session, and call or text if you anticipate running more than 15 minutes late.
-
If your baby will be circumcised, please schedule the session with healing time in mind.
-
We recommend clearing your schedule for the day to avoid overstimulating your baby before the session, as sessions may sometimes run longer than expected.
-
Keep your baby awake for 1-2 hours before leaving for the studio. You can achieve this by giving the baby a bath, engaging in conversation with them, using bright toys or sounds, and keeping the baby un-swaddled.
-
Only the adults who are being photographed are allowed during the session; this policy is non-negotiable.
-
Ensure your baby is fed right before you leave for the studio, so they arrive with a full belly.
-
We highly encourage the use of a pacifier. Its usage will be minimal, reducing the risk of nipple confusion.
-
Bring an extra bottle of milk (either pumped or formula).
-
Dress your baby in a sleeper that zips or buttons up. Avoid clothing that needs to be lifted over the head, such as onesies or layered outfits. Please refrain from using socks, as they can leave marks on the baby.
-
Prepare snacks, drinks, and quiet games for any siblings who will be present.
-
Parents, make sure to have a substantial breakfast before heading to the session.
SIBLINGS:
For siblings 3 years or younger, it's important to practice at home before the session. Encourage your toddler to spend time near the baby, helping them get accustomed to their new sibling. Older children can sometimes feel jealous of the baby, which is completely natural. Forcing interactions can increase these feelings, so I recommend allowing your toddler to approach the baby at their own pace. During the session, I'll use gentle techniques to capture their bond without any pressure.

DURING THE SESSION
I photograph babies in their birthday suits, therefore my home studio is kept around 75-80 degrees in order to keep the baby comfortable. Do not worry if your baby is awake during the session, there are ways that the baby can be photographed. You must prepare to feed the baby more often than you've become accustomed to since we might disturb baby's sleep with posing and that is the quickest and most effective way to get baby back to sleep.
SESSION LENGTH, & PROPS
Try not to schedule any important appointments the same day of your session. It takes time to mold each newborn into the perfect pose. There is no telling how long the session will take. Although, I usually try to keep sessions under 3 hours, I have had to go to 4 in some instances. In the session baby is the boss ;).
Please just remember that I am not in any hurry. I only book one newborn session per day. Please don’t feel the need to apologize if the session is on the long side, it’s totally OK.I have many props available for your newborn session. Although I pre - plan all sessions and pull out blankets, props, backgrounds and hats/headbands you are welcome to bring your own family heirloom to include in the photos.

WHAT TO WEAR
Family and baby/parent images are done against neutral color backdrop so creams/whites are advised for a monotone look or grays/blacks if you like contrast. The backdrop colors are( Dark gray, Mocha, White and light gray ) For family shots with siblings I advise dressing in lighter colors. Whichever you choose (light or dark) make sure everyone is dressed in the same tones. I advise to bring the clothing for these shots and wear something comfortable - it will be warm in the studio so layers are best. These shots are done from the hips up so bottoms can be jeans or something comfortable. Make sure your to bring extra clothes, just imagine what can happen with a diaper free baby in your arms ;)
ACHIEVING CERTAIN POSES
I do not guarantee any poses with any baby as babies are unpredictable and I always put safety first. I will not do any pose that will put your baby in harms way. Babies need to be in a deep, content sleep for many poses. If there are specific poses that are important to you then please have a bottle and/or pacifier on hand to increase the odds of achieving these images. Non sleeping babies will have a majority of their images swaddle or in props as this prevents them from flailing and startling themselves.

Once again, thank you so much, is an honor that you have chosen Carolina Creative Studio to capture this important time in your life. You can count with all my dedication to create beautiful memories of your baby.
